Why pre arrange my funeral?
As an accepted practice, we insure our homes and possessions in case of an untoward event. We insure our motor cars, boats in case they are damaged or stolen. It is wise then that many people are now making plans, with or without funding, for our inevitable passing.
A pre -arranged funeral is one that is planned in advance, with the personal details and wishes for the funeral, recorded with your chosen Funeral Director. When death occurs, the family, or person responsible for making the funeral arrangements needs only to sign the prepared documents and, in consultation with the Funeral Director, set the day and time for the funeral. The option of pre paying the funeral is usually offered at the time of pre arrangement, however this is not a requirement.
It is not morbid. When completing a house and contents insurance policy cover, we are not imagining the sound of the roof lifting off in a cyclone, or a burglar sifting through our possessions. When we pre arrange our funeral, we are neither imagining nor wishing death upon us or our family. We are simply making some very intelligent decisions for the future.
Heritage Brady Funeral Directors endorse the “Australian Unity” Funeral Benefit Plan. Australian Unity, is government approved and designed to safely invest monies set aside to pay for a funeral. This fund is totally secure and safe. The fund grows through interest and dividends paid over time itself, thus fixing and protecting the cost of the funeral even though these costs will be affected by inflation. If you are in receipt of a means tested pension, current legislation allows for a major portion of the funds to be exempt from consideration as an asset.
Having pre -arranged and costed a funeral at today’s prices, you then, by means of a lump sum or agreed time payment scheme, invest the value of the funeral. This planning leaves your family with little, if anything to pay when the funeral is needed. Australian Unity will allow you to nominate the Funeral Director of your choice, to be the prime beneficiary of the plan you have bought, thus saving your family from administrative concerns.
It is kind to our loved ones, to spare those we leave behind, the burden of decision making in the reality of their grief and loss.
